Tinkerbell Background
Tinker Bell or Tinkerbell (the more commonly used
re-spelling of the name) is a fictional character along
with her friend, Peter Pan. Tinkerbell is a fairy and
sometimes misbehaves and at other times she is helpful
and sweet. She is often a jealous "pixie" who glows
brightest for Peter Pan but gets spiteful if he focuses
attention on anyone else. Her personality and
emotional extremes are explained by her saying that a
fairy's size prevents her from holding more than one
feeling at a time. An interesting thought and an
interesting character.
In one famous scene, Tinkerbell is dying, but will survive if enough people believe in fairies. At the end of the original novel, when Peter returns to the Darling home after a year, it is revealed that Tinkerbell "is no more" since "fairies don't live long, but they are so little that a short time seems a good while to them." Like nearly everything that has happened in the story, Peter has forgotten her as real death and sadness cannot exist in his everlasting childhood. Another interesting thought and interesting character.
Disney's version of the fairy (whom they sometimes call a pixie), became something of a mascot for Disney, appearing in commercials and program openings to spread fairy dust from her magic wand. Both Tinkerbell and Peter Pan provide amusement and fantasy, as well as being tangible teaching examples as we guide our children to mature past what is innate human nature.
